Arcadia, Los Angeles County
Arcadia was founded by Elias J. Baldwin, who became its first mayor when the city incorporated in 1903. The heart of his ranch is now the Los Angeles County Arboretum, 127 acres of gardens around a small lake and his ornate Queen Anne cottage of 1885. Peacocks descended from birds he imported still wander the grounds and the neighboring streets.
